Day 24: August 20th, 2025 Breast Clinic

Wednesday August 20th the team visited coast general teaching and referral hospital’s breast clinic. We shadowed Dr. Maryam a breast surgeon as she did examinations and follow up appointments with women. We took the same observational approach that we mastered while doing needs finding in the OR or emergency department. As patients and doctors spoke between English and Swahili it was a bit difficult to follow however Dr. Maryam was thorough in answering our questions. It was interesting to discover how these women were referred to the clinic, the vast age range and types of complications. This experience was extremely enlightening and will guide our steps forward for potential diagnostic innovation in Kenya.
