January 2023: Returning to Uganda

Hi readers! We are bringing back the blog in 2023 to bring you more travel content and updates from the team's second field trip to Uganda. As you know, the focus of our trip in August was women's health - a broad focus that we split up into smaller, but still broad, focuses of STIs and STDs, breast cancer, and maternal health. Since August, our team has undergone a robust needs down-selection process and has interviewed hundreds of stakeholders resulting in a current mission to improve breast cancer diagnostics in Uganda, where the mortality after receiving a diagnosis of the disease, is 50%... (compare that to the 2.4% in the United States for a sense of the gravity of this problem). As for what this mission translates to in terms of an actionable project that our team pursues - follow along to find out!
