January 11 - Leaving Lira and Arriving in Gulu

We spent this morning visiting the folks we met yesterday to convey our thanks to them as it was our last (half) day in Lira. We also got a chance to meet Dr. Francis Olwa, a teaching pathologist at Lira University briefly before we left the district. Dr. Francis shared that the University is in the process of setting up a histopathology lab but that the setup still lacks a tissue processor. One of his suggestions was to equip nurses and medical workers at lower tier health centers with the knowledge of recognition of breast cancer and the ability to perform FNA and that FNA really ought to be used as a screening tool - which, if enabled, could address issues on the front end of the breast cancer pathway.

We left Lira in the early afternoon and arrived in Gulu district. We spent the evening getting situated and are looking forward to spending time in Gulu understanding challenges in the breast cancer pathway from clinicians.
